Crawford High School Colts Stadium - San Diego, California

Initially charged with designing a new 800-seat grandstand for this existing school site, Randal Ehm discovered a relocatable set of bleachers in Elk Grove School District that had already been approved by Division of the State Architect (DSA). The fast-tracked project was approved by DSA for relocation within two weeks, it was installed in six weeks and received a Certificate of Occupancy on the day of the first home game. The deal Randal struck ultimately saved San Diego Unified School District over $35,000 and saved the school about three months in permitting and construction time.

Rose Creek Ecological Preserve San Diego, California

This project was designed as a public service for The Nature School, a non-profit agency focused on environmental awareness. Design elements include an accessible, creekside study area for close inspection of tide pools, a heavy-timber overlook for wildlife viewing along the northern end of the creek, and a gazebo with an informational kiosk near the historic Rose Creek Cottage. The Cottage serves as a staging area for student filed trips and ecological exercises. This project won the Governor’s Award for Leadership in Environmental Education in 1998.

San Diego City Schools / San Diego Parks and Recreation Department Joint-Use Fields - San Diego, California

We are currently serving SDUSD - the nation’s seventh-largest school district – under a three-year, $1.5 million contract. We are now working jointly with the District and City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department for joint use park development at five school sites. The fields range in size from 3 to 5 acres, and include soccer fields, softball diamonds, cricket fields, play equipment and parking. Services include Facility Condition Assessments, ADA Compliant and Universal Design, State and Federal ADA Compliance Research, Design and Transition Plans, Recreational Facilities and Site Planning.
