Kalahari Cafe

This 4,500 square foot tenant improvement is being built on the first floor of the historic Las Flores Hotel in San Diego’s dynamic Gaslamp District. Designed for William Sussman, for whom we also designed Terrific Pacific Brewery and Grill, the restaurant brings a South African menu and décor to the area that is widely known for its high-quality restaurants. The cafe features an open kitchen with flame broiler, an upscale bar and a sidewalk café.

Owners William Sussman and Valerie Duband retained Ehm Architecture to design the 4,400 square foot tenant improvement to an existing Sizzler Restaurant. The remodel involved redesign of the commercial kitchen, construction of a new bar, sidewalk café and take-out window, and the installation of commercial brewing equipment. The project was designed, permitted and built in the Coastal Zone within five months. The building has since been rebranded as Pacific Beach Alehouse.

Ehm Architecture designed this 9,000 square foot special events annex in 2005. Construction was completed in September 2006. The facility is used for wine tastings, conferences, luncheons, weddings, parties and civic events.

This 5,400 square foot Peruvian restaurant was completed in 2006. The décor features unique artwork to reflect the ethnic menu. The full bar features a liquid countertop with lighted glass and glassrack.

This 1,500 square foot tenant improvement was our first restaurant project in the Pacific Northwest. The tenant space is located in Redmond Towne Center, a large mixed-use development near the Microsoft Headquarters Campus. The project was completed in four months.

Ehm Architecture provided corporate imaging services in development of a three-dimensional model for this new restaurant chain. The prototype is being built throughout the United States. We are also involved in remodeling of existing restaurants to match the new prototype. A typical 3,500 square foot restaurant can seat up to 100 people.

Our fifth upscale restaurant for entrepreneur William Sussman, this project was our second Per Peri Restaurant design. The 3,500 square foot restaurant features a full bar, take-out window, patio dining and live entertainment on weekends. The insets below reflect the tenant space prior to renovation as Peri Peri.

We are currently in the design phase for this 6,900 square foot restaurant. The cafe will be built within a rehabilitated brick structure in San Diego's dynamic Gaslamp District. As our third upscale restaurant for entrepreneur William Sussman, this location will build upon the success of Kalahari Cafe in offering a broadly South African menu, but will feature food and décor which is unique to the beautiful coast of Mocambique. The cafe features an exhibition kitchen with flame broiler, a full-service first level bar with mezzanine lounge, a private dining room and a take-away hatch which will be unique to this location. The site is directly across the street from Padre Park, a grassy area where baseball fans can picnic during games, and has a direct view of fan seating at Petco Park

Peri Peri Restaurant-Bar-Lounge

We completed design for this 5,400 square foot restaurant in Spring 2012. The tenant space was previously occupied by Vigillucci’s and Moondoggies restaurants. Our fourth upscale restaurant for entrepreneur William Sussman, this venue focuses on the spicy peri peri pepper, which is a staple of South African cuisine. The main dining room features an open bar with lounge seating, a formal dining area and a balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean with seating for 75. The 1,800 square foot back bar features a Russian-themed vodka and caviar bar with unique décor and a lighted ice bartop.

This 12,000 square foot, three-story farmer's market is the showpiece of the Henderson Convention Center project being developed by our President/CEO Randal Ehm. The project features a suspension bridge connected to the City of Henderson's existing parking structure across Water Street. Overhead rolling glass doors facing the existing Splash Pad and Amphitheater allow public events to spill over into the market, and for after-hours special events within the market.

Broken Yolk Restaurant
Pacific Beach, California

The Broken Yolk Restaurant is a very popular breakfast and lunch spot in Pacific Beach. Ehm Architecture was hired in 1997 to expand the restaurant with a two-story, 6,500 square foot addition. The project features a new dining area seating 120 people, administrative offices, kitchen remodeling and a roof deck with seating for 100 people.

AFC Enterprises engaged Ehm Architecture to perform feasibility studies for seven restaurant locations in California. We were then hired to provide architectural services for construction of new stores as well as remodel of a former El Pollo Loco restaurant in Oceanside. The franchises were owned by the late San Diego Padre star Tony Gwinn.

This 1,600 square foot sidewalk cafe project is in the Construction Documents Phase. The project will be completed by November 2011. Scope of work includes parking lot improvements, removable enclosure to allow future restaurant expansion, planter boxes to match the existing building, and permitting through the San Diego County Health Department, City of San Diego and the California Alcohol and Beverage Control Board.

Circle K Stores

Randal Ehm developed the standard 2500 square foot prototypical convenience store plan for Circle K Stores while employed by Schuss-Clark & Associates in 1986. The store design is still being widely built across the United States.
