Our History

Randal Jay Ehm founded Artek San Diego in 1987, to provide production drafting services to local architects. Growing to a staff of seven, the firm produced construction and design drawings for over 400 diverse projects within four years. Randal’s wife Grace joined us when the firm was renamed Ehm Architecture, upon Randal’s licensure in 1991. We have completed over 1,500 diverse projects since then, without a single legitimate claim for professional liability.

Founded as Artek San Diego, our firm initially served architects exclusively with design development, production drafting and permitting services. We renamed the company Ehm Architecture when firm Principal Randal Jay Ehm became a licensed California Architect in 1991. We opened our Seattle office in 1994, and became incorporated in 2000. Mr. Ehm is currently licensed to practice architecture in Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Washington. Over the past decade, we have established satellite locations in San Francisco, Portland, Las Vegas, Kettle Falls, Kalispell and Orlando. We have spun off the modular construction companies MMP Inc. and ModdLiving, and are preparing for the launch of M for Modular, a modular design-build company using shipping containers as structural components.
